Former CNN.com Executive Carin Dessauer to Lead Multi-Platform Strategy Seminars for The Media Center at API

Reston, VA - Carin Dessauer, a multimedia consultant and former CNN and CNN.com executive, will chair two media convergence seminars at the American Press Institute in spring 2004.

The seminars, "Partnership for Online and Beyond," enable teams of online and offline executives to develop a baseline of understanding and common strategies for delivering news, information and advertising online and through print, broadcast and other channels. The seminars are the flagship annual publishing strategy seminars produced by The Media Center, a unit of the American Press Institute that focuses on media convergence and the future of news.

Dessauer will chair two versions of the seminar:

  • April 26-30 is geared to teams from metro and global markets

  • May 18-21 is for smaller-market publishing teams

The seminars are a follow-up to and replace the previous Media Center seminar, "Digital News Management."

Dessauer, considered a pioneer and visionary in early Internet convergence and cross-platform integration, is a Washington, D.C.-based journalist and media executive with more than 17 years' multimedia expertise in print, broadcast and Internet news. She was previously CNN.com's executive editor Washington and CNN's deputy political director. Most recently, she authored the chapter on news for the newly released book, Society Online: The Internet in Context. She is a senior fellow with The Media Center and is a member of its advisory board.

As the CNN.com executive in charge of the Washington bureau and the record-setting political/election coverage for CNN.com, Dessauer initiated, secured and produced the first-ever online news interview with a sitting president, President Bill Clinton, and the first and only online/on-air interview to date with President George W. Bush, then the Republican presidential nominee. Dessauer served as the Shapiro Fellow at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, where she designed and taught an upper- and graduate-level seminar on Internet news and convergence. The Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Bucknell University presently is a principal with mc2, a media and business strategic consulting firm.
