Kenneth A. Paulson

For the past 30 years, Mr. Paulson has drawn on his background as both a journalist and lawyer, serving as the editor or managing editor of newspapers in five different states and in recent years as the executive director of the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University. 

Mr. Paulson is also the chair of the ASNE First Amendment committee and is heading up The Liberty Tree Initiative, a new nationwide campaign to build nonpartisan support for First Amendment freedoms.

In 2007, Mr. Paulson was named Fellow of the Society of Professional Journalists, "the highest honor SPJ bestows upon a journalist for extraordinary contributions to the profession."

Along with John Seigenthaler, founder of the Freedom Forum First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University, he was honored with the American Press Institute's Lifetime Service Award in October 2007. Mr. Paulson has attended three API seminars: Executive Editors & Managing Editors (1990), Opportunity Markets: Targeting Young Adults (1994) and Newspaper Next Symposium II: Blueprint for Transformation (2006).
